We're advancing solar energy growth using indispensable research and on-the-ground education.
Together, we are creating transformative solutions to achieve a prosperous future in which solar energy is integrated into all aspects of our lives.
Be part of the movement to expand solar energy use worldwide.
We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing the use of solar and solar-compatible technologies worldwide. We believe that increasing access to this clean, abundant, reliable, and affordable energy source will lift up people’s lives and bring about a prosperous future for all.
Our national SolSmart program has achieved its goal to help over 300 local governments make it faster, easier and more affordable to go solar! These communities are in 40 states and the District of Columbia and represent 82 million people. From big cities to suburbs and small towns, SolSmart is helping local governments reduce barriers and become “open for solar business.”
“SolSmart has encouraged more people to adopt solar, created quality local jobs, and brought more reliable local clean energy to our energy system. We need more clean and resilient options in our local communities, and simplifying permitting is a proven way to make real progress.” — Lynn Jurich, CEO of Sunrun
We publish comprehensive research to help solar and storage companies build a diverse and inclusive workforce, with equal opportunities for women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and veterans. Not only do we provide the definitive benchmark data on where the industry now stands, but we also work with companies on best practices to meet diversity and inclusion goals.
“Diversity and inclusion are essential to making the solar industry as accessible as possible. While the industry is working hard toward expanding into all communities, studies like this highlight where the gaps are so we can do a better job on filling them. Over time, we hope that our industry workforce will be as diverse as our world, and studies like this will help us get there.” — Scott Wiater, President and CEO of Standard Solar
We’re helping meet the workforce needs of the solar and storage industry by connecting employers, training providers, and career seekers. Our toolkits offer the latest best practices to meet hiring and training needs. Our job fairs, workshops, and online resources are powering the solar industry’s growth.

We’re partnering with leading solar companies on the Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP) initiative to create a low-cost, seamless process for rooftop solar and storage installations, while enhancing safety and reliability. This will make solar energy more affordable and accessible for homeowners and businesses.
As Puerto Rico rebuilds from the devastation after Hurricane Maria, we’re partnering with major humanitarian relief organizations to install solar and storage where it is needed the most, including at health clinics and major community centers.
“Times of crisis call for us to reach out and forge alliances to pull resources together and achieve a common goal.” — Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto, Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico
