The following privacy policy (“policy”) describes information The Solar Foundation may collect from you, along with our practices for using, maintaining, and disclosing that information.

This policy is applicable to The Solar Foundation’s website (http://www.thesolarfoundation.org), The Solar Foundation’s email newsletters, and any other interactive communications or services. We reserve the right to make periodic changes to this policy without notice. If we do so, we will post the updated policy to our website. On occasion, however, we may share information such as your name, email address, or mailing address with partner organizations that have similar commitments to solar energy or sustainability, or who provide products or services that could match your interests. If you have unsubscribed from our mailing lists, we may retain your personal information for backup, archival, and/or audit purposes. We also may disclose personal information under emergency circumstances or if required by law.

Confidential Surveys

The Solar Foundation and its partners sometimes conduct confidential surveys of relevant stakeholders in order to gather information for public reports and other research. For example, the annual National Jobs Census relies on information in a survey administered with The Solar Foundation’s partners. Participation and responses to these surveys are not made public and only non-identifying group statistics are used when reporting results.

Non-Personal Information

Through your use of The Solar Foundation’s website, we may also collect information that does not identify you individually but keeps track of your usage patterns on our website. This could include, but is not limited to, information about your IP address, device location, device type, browser type, and related data. We may sometimes share this information with third parties as part of our efforts to improve user experience on the website. Our website includes links to third-party sites which are not administered by The Solar Foundation. If you visit these websites, the use of your personal and non-personal information will be governed by the privacy policy of the third party.

Collecting Information Through Social Media Sites

If you interact with one of The Solar Foundation’s accounts on a social media platform, such as Facebook, we may collect the personal information you make available through use of that platform. In these cases, we will follow the privacy policies of the individual platforms with respect to how we collect and store this information.

Information Collected from Children

The Solar Foundation does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 without the permission of a parent or legal guardian. We use accepted data collection and encryption methodologies to ensure the secure collection and transmission of sensitive user information, such as credit card information used to make donations. We make every effort to safeguard the security of personal information, but no data submitted over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100 percent secure. Our website, email newsletter, and other communications are published in the United States. We are committed to protecting your personal information regardless of where you are located, but our privacy policy is directed toward compliance with U.S. laws.

In your letter or email, please include your full name, mailing address, and email address. If possible, please indicate how you are being contacted by The Solar Foundation (for example, through our email newsletter) so we can ensure your information is deleted from the relevant database.

Email newsletters distributed by The Solar Foundation also include an “Unsubscribe” button that will allow you to opt out from receiving future newsletters.
