The Solar Foundation is committed to helping Puerto Rico rebuild and move toward a sustainable future with solar energy and battery storage. Since Hurricanes Maria and Irma, we have led groundbreaking programs to help install solar and storage in places where it’s needed the most, while supporting the development of a robust solar industry and workforce.
Solar Saves Lives
Through the Solar Saves Lives initiative, we are installing solar and battery storage at health clinics, community centers, and other critical locations in Puerto Rico. We are proud to coordinate this effort with our partners including the Clinton Foundation, Direct Relief, the Hispanic Federation, and local solar companies and organizations in Puerto Rico.
The hurricanes struck in 2017, but the recovery is ongoing. Find out what we’ve accomplished in support of a bright solar future in Puerto Rico, and how you can help.
Puerto Rican Solar Business Accelerator
The Puerto Rican Solar Business Accelerator is a new program to support solar workforce development, finance, and microgrid development in Puerto Rico. Led by The Solar Foundation in partnership with Pathstone Corporation, Inc. and the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, this program will expand and strengthen the Puerto Rican solar industry and spur the development of a highly qualified workforce.
This program is part of a $4.5 million initiative to provide business assistance and workforce development for Puerto Rican solar and construction companies, with support from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). Through the program, The Solar Foundation and partners will work collaboratively with Puerto Rican solar companies to improve financing for solar projects and support a robust workforce pipeline. The team will also develop two solar and storage microgrid development pilots.
